Penguin sent out their email newsletter last week and shared some great information about tying the common core to what they are calling “classroom classics”.
From the Newsletter: We proudly present our Core Curriculum Lesson Plans for Penguin’s Classroom Classics, featuring the titles above. Each plan is designed with the intent of immediate adoption into your classroom with ready-made reading assignments, writing prompts, and extension activities. The Common Core Lesson Plans were created and written by educators for educators—and all are aligned to the Common Core State Standards.
So far, they have three educator guides for Young Adult titles. They are: Thirteen Reasons Why (Gateway Winner 2010), Matched (2012-2013 Nominee), and Between Shades of Gray (on the short list for 2013-2014 Nominees).
What a great way to promote using Gateway titles in the classroom. According to Penguin there are more to come so check back at their website periodically – http://penguinclassroom.com.
